Boutique beauties
To immerse yourself in history (without sacrificing modern style), it’s hard to go past the Byng Street Boutique Hotel. It began life as Yallungah, a stately family home built circa 1896, before being transformed into a spectacular 22-room hotel in 2019. Heritage features were meticulously restored and contrasted with playful, colourful interior design, surrounded by lush gardens. Out of town, Lakeview Luxury Retreat is a five-star bed and breakfast set beside Lake Canobolas, with five romantic self-contained villas designed for couples seeking to escape the world.

Divine heritage digs are also on offer at Orange’s grandest historic mansion, Duntryleague, built in 1876. It now has 14 guest rooms overlooking vast gardens and an 18-hole golf course. For something more modern, de Russie Boutique Hotel has 25 rooms ranging from studios (some with spa baths) to spacious two- and three-bedroom suites. The location is also five-star, just a few minutes’ walk from Orange’s best restaurants, cafes and bars.
