Located at the entrance to the Bellinger River and the beautiful Bellinger Valley on the mid north coast, Urunga Museum has been welcoming visitors since 1965. Now housed in the 1903 School of Arts building, the museum takes visitors on a journey back in time.

The museum tells the story, with photos and objects, of early aboriginal life, the logging of the rich timbers that grew in abundance in the valley, to the story of the establishment of the township of Urunga and its long history with shipping.

With the arrival of a Pilot in 1868, to assist the many ships arriving with essential goods for the settlers and departing with timber, the township emerged into a thriving port.

There are many stories of shipping disasters to be told and stories of the resilience of the early settlers. Urunga has been a destination for travellers for many years and a visit to the Urunga Museum can add to a stay in Urunga.

The Museum also has a great variety of books telling the story of the area and early settlers.
