Morpeth Museum began in the 1970s and is still going strong. 'The Courthouse, Life &Times' new exhibition is a must see for history enthusiasts, architecture aficionados and anyone interested in uncovering the hidden stories that lie beneath the surface.

Visit Morpeth Museum and discover the history of this heritage building set in the historic Morpeth village.

Morpeth Courthouse, now the Morpeth Museum, bestowed justice from 1862 until c1950.

Morpeth Museum served a broad range of purposes such as, a Post and Telegraph Office, where Morpeth had the worlds first pictorial stamp. The significant building was also a branch library with lots of books to view from that period and a baby health centre; take a look at the baby, toddler and young children's scales from that era. Other services were a polling station and private accommodation; an interesting detail, is the graffiti for the children's growing height, that is marked on the door frame.
