Travellers seeking refuge can now enjoy the stylish environment of The Old Bookham Church, less than a minute off the Hume Highway. As the name suggests this historic church stands in the small village of Bookham three and a half hours from Sydney and six hours from Melbourne.
Original stain glass windows create a serene ambience around the spacious open plan sitting and dining area containing comfortable sofas, a smart television, free Wi-Fi and some family furniture pieces including an impressive dining table rescued from the shearer’s huts and restored by a local craftsman. The altar has been converted into a fully operational kitchen and bar. With two sleeping spaces plus additional sofa beds, the church can accommodate up to 8 people. Pet friendly, it has a fenced yard with firepit and barbeque and is just a quick walk through the gum trees, to the nearby Barney’s Cafe open for breakfast. The Old Bookham Church is conveniently located close to the Hume Highway so light sleepers might need to use the ear plugs which are provided.
Because the closest food outlets (in Yass and Jugiong) are at least 20 minutes’ drive, you can order ready-to-heat meals if you give them at least 24 hours advance notice. See the website to book from the menu.
