Sen Mēs Tev Jau Gaidījām - We Have Been Waiting for You Long Ago– weaves together installation, textiles and video to draw viewers into the ancient and enduring rituals and folklore of Inga Hanover’s indigenous Latvian heritage.

Here, Hanover expresses a deep yearning for home drawing on her childhood memory, stories of family immigration and the symbols of Latvia’s mythological folksongs, the Dainas.

Using repaired and reused textiles and meditative process of stitching, binding and shrouding, the exhibition both preserves Latvian culture, and traces the story of Hanover’s family’s immigration to the North East Victoria via Bonegilla as World War II refugees.

Sen Mēs Tev Jau Gaidījām - We Have Been Waiting for You Long Ago was originally commissioned by Hyphen Wodonga Library Gallery.
