Suki & Hugh Gallery will open an exhibition of new works in glass by Canberra-based artist Debra Jurss.
The exhibition entitled Breathe will be Jurss’ first with the gallery having worked together in a more limited capacity over many years.
Reflecting on the early days of the global COVID-19 outbreak, Jurss created an installation of glass face masks titled "First Fit Your Own." This work serves as a poignant reminder of government messaging around breathing, infused with a sense of fear and moral obligation. Echoing the familiar airline safety instructions to secure your own oxygen mask before assisting others, the installation explores how our individual actions and behaviours profoundly affected the fundamental act of breathing.
