Located about halfway between Lennox Head and Byron Bay, Newrybar is a historic hinterland village with charm to spare.
One of the biggest drawcards here is Harvest, an award-winning restaurant, deli and bakery housed in what was the oldest bakery in the country. Harvest creates legendary sourdough from the 119-year-old wood-fired oven; stocks a fascinating array of local products in the deli; and its seasonal menu at the restaurant draws people from far and wide.
The hamlet has more than its share of great retail, too: don’t miss Newrybar Merchants, where you can pick up homewares and lifestyle pieces by local artists and artisans (in a charming 1890s homestead); the eponymous studio of jewellery designer Louise Shaw; and more great homeware finds at Luther & Co.
Drive the country roads surrounding Newrybar to discover coffee and macadamia plantations and farm-gate stalls (many of them along Broken Head, Brooklet and Piccadilly Hill roads). Take a dip at Killen Falls and stay at a local bed and breakfast, where a country welcome is always guaranteed.
